Comparing Discordianism With Satanism

While scanning through various discordian websites a thought started to occur to me... I had a sense that all this crap seemed familiar. Then it hit me, I had a friend in High School who became hip and cool in the tenth grade and decide to become a Satanist. Mind you, not the outright cat-killing type of Satanist, but the philosophical too-cool for school kind of Satanist.

I'm sure most of you have met someone who fits the bill.

Once that thought occurred to me I realized that discordians probably act the same way, although Discordianism -as I've mentioned before- actually does condone terrorism, so its hard to say which idea is worse.

Now, a comparison of the two "ideas":

SATANISM:
Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence
DISCORDIANISM:
Do what thou wilt / you are free if you believe so

SATANISM:
Satan represents vital existence instead of spiritual pipe dreams
DISCORDIANISM:
Think for yourself, schmuck!

SATANISM:
Satan represents undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit
DISCORDIANISM:
Pentabarf

SATANISM:
Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it instead of love wasted on ingrates
DISCORDIANISM:
mocks regular people as "cabbages"

SATANISM:
Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek
DISCORDIANISM:
the so-called "Operation Mindfuck"

SATANISM:
Satan represents responsibility to the responsible instead of concern for psychic vampires
DISCORDIANISM:
Think for yourself, schmuck!

SATANISM:
Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his “divine spiritual and intellectual development,” has become the most vicious animal of all
DISCORDIANISM:
Discordians are fond of referring to other humans as "hairless apes"

SATANISM:
Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification
DISCORDIANISM:
The Discordian days of the week are named after the 7 Deadly Sins

It shouldn't take much thought to realize that Satanism and Discordianism are basically the same concept, except one of the two tries to hide its malicious intent behind clowning and buffoonery, in the insidious attempts to lure impressionable teenagers into its wicked lifestyle.

There are only 5 days in a discordian week, and they are not named after the 7 or 5 deadly sins

Your information is out of date.

I have studied this phenomenon called "Discordianism" and I can assure you that the similarities with Satanism are not coincidences. My research has concluded that Satanism is simply a meme the Discordians use on prospective members who "just don't get it".

Discordiansim's think for yourself never implies you should indulge.
the point of it is that you should think and know why you should not indulge and not just take others words for this.

also satanists generally are hateful towards christianity. I quite like christianity but Know he faults it had when people did not think for themselves and slaughtered thousands across the ages.

oh by the way you hairless ape, we call each other that too.

Where in your writings does it state that one should not indulge?

Central Scrutinizer, why are you so enamored of the idea that people should not think for themselves? Is it because you do not think for yourself? You quote "Think for yourself, schmuck" as if that is a BAD message for people to be sending. Please stop trying to make your own stupidity contagious.

You obviously know little to nothing about Discordianism.

Do you have Any idea what the Pentabarf says?

The last one says to not believe anything you read. Including that commandment. It's just making fun of the contradictions in other religions.

Operation Mindfuck has Nothing to do with vengance. It's to screw with people's minds!

There are 5 days in the Discordian week.

"Think for yourself, schmuck" is good advice. Too many people follow things blindly with no clue where they're going.

What an ironic response.

the should not indulge thing is said nowhere in the material, because you should be able to figure out what you should and should not do by yourself.

a killer in prison is still a killer,
a thief who fears stealing only because his religion says so is still a thief.

And you are still a dupe. Live with it.

Discordianism is NOT Satanism...It's not to say that it's not not Satanism...but it's to say that Discordianism has no clear definition, and if you come up with one it is no longer discordianism...well unless you define it as not having a definition, in which case it's still defined...but in any case, if you read the principia discordia, it doesn't say that one SHOULD do anything, and it also says Do What Thou Wilt Shall be the Whole of The Law, but nobody likes a jerk. Trying to narrow Discordianism down into your simple definition would be restricting and insulting to me and just about any other discordian (in some sense), it also says in the principia discordia, something about Creative Disorder and Creative Order over Destructive Disorder or Destructive Order, so in a sense, you saying that Discordians are out for Destruction and Vengeance is a little misguided...plus no Discordian has to fit your definition, or mine...These are just models of looking at reality, grids, if you will, which describe reality as filtered through the grid, so this is just as true and false and meaningless as just about any other grid or the absence of any other grid, because that would be a grid anyway, but let's just say that Conceptualizing about reality is useless since Truth is beyond the level of concept, and that truth is also a concept, so good luck figuring Reality out you Schmuck! In conclusion, I'm glad to hear that your thinking about comparing Discordianism to something else, but it's just that I'm mostly glad that your thinking more than anything else. And if my rambling here makes no sense to anybody, then you might just get It(tm). (It(tm) is not guaranteed to treat, cure, or prevent any disease.)

Oh my word! You are DEAD ON with this stuff!
And the way you managed to glue together these two (seemingly seperate) concepts into one...I am blown away. It must be difficult to tread these silly, silly waters, with Satanists and Discordians and Lord Knows what else come flying at you all day.
I had a younger brother, he went around calling him a Satanist for two weeks (he's always in and out of philosophy {three years ago, he claimed himself hindi, started eating nothing but rice and would do "yoga" [I call it "calisthetics for the damned"] till THREE IN THE MORNING} and just doesn't know how to stick with a system) before he realized that he wasn't allowed to be polite to people (it's no good for the "image", he said.)
He's such a sweet guy, he couldn't bring himself to eat those poor little babies. Well, at least, he got full after the first five, and they just wanted to THROW THE REST AWAY! Can you believe it?! Good, fresh baby, right down the garbage disposal! Satanists are such wastrels.
Now, take Christianity. THERE'S a religion that knows how to handle babies... Unless, of course, they're gay (which is easy to tell if you know how to look) then, in the nearest ditch. (Where they belong, I mean, ditches are UGLY. We need as many interior designers as we can get in those ditches.
Where was I?
Oh yes, good job on putting people in their place and I hope that you can find a planet to rule you see fit to rule any given planet (maybe one with a lot of gravity?) and also...
I have made you a Friend Box, in which you can stay in if we decide to have a sleep-over (footie-panjamas required).

Everything has similarities, Discordianism and Christianity have similarites too. To say two things are the same because they are similar is stupid, an apple has a whole lot in common with an orange(they grow on treees, they are fruit, you eat them, they are healthy, they have vitamins etc.) but that does not mean that they are one and the same thing and part of an evil conspiracy against all that is good. Good is just a figment of the mind, Hitler did everything HE thought was best for Germany and the German people, just like you are trying to do things best for the people, you are just enforcing your idea of "good" on other people.

You're entirely correct... to a point. Discordia and Satanism appear similar because they are both public "faces", if you will, of an older and deeper philosophy. This philosophy teaches that mankind requires a force to hone it into a species capable of facing any challenge that might come to it, and if that force does not exist externally, one must necessarily be created. Thus Discordians, attacking "serious" behavior with nonsense, and Satanists, attacking "polite" society with fierce words and swift retaliation for any slight. They, along with other faces of the philosophy, serve to improve the species by attacking those things that would ultimately hold the species back. One day, something will come about that requires humanity to be the best it can possibly be as a species. The Discordians, the Satanists, and other "unsavory" characters are preparing humanity for that day.
